iHeartTeacups - So your bringing your new iheartteacups.com puppy home?

Today’s the big day! You're bringing your tiny new puppy home.  It's an exciting time, we at iHeartTeacups know because we have prepared many new parents like you who have bought a new baby. It’s exciting and nerve wrecking at the same time.

A million things are running through your head, reminding yourself extra things to pick up at the pet store, asking yourself "Did I prepare the house right?"  Well, no need to worry because we are going to go step by step in preparing our home before your little joy of fluff becomes a member of the family.

Step 1: Time to clean house! Tiny puppies like to chew on tiny things, and get into things they should not be. They are walking vacuum cleaners, at least some can be. So first things first, pick up anything off the floor that should not be there, or anything you don't want to be chewed on, peed on, or pooped on.

Step 2: Make sure to have a local veterinary number on hand who is close by, in case of an emergency. Do research before picking a vet for your puppy. There are many vets out there, expensive and reasonably priced, so you want to make sure to get the best vet that is accessible to you.

Step 3: Designate a space where the puppy will spend its time when he or she is not being supervised. This space should be small, warm and in a safe space. At iheartteacups.com we recommend in setting up a puppy playpen. You can buy one from any local pet store. You can also get a baby gate and section off a small part of the house where the puppy can run around where he will not have complete access to the rest of the house.

Step 4: Buy all the necessary items for the puppy.

The basic items a puppy will need:
- puppy playpen or gate
- 2 dog bowls with low sides (one for food, and one for water)
- blanket
- dog bed
- toys (chew toys, plush toys, teething toys)
- treats (make sure they are organic and introduce any treats into their diets slowly and in small amounts)
- lead and harness
- dog tag
- dog food
- shampoo/conditioner
- hair brush (slicker brush for the body, a small flea comb for around the face)
- dog tooth brush and tooth paste (dental hygiene is important, so starting at an early age is key to getting them used to teeth brushing)
- wee wee pads
- paper towels
- organic disinfectant cleaner

Step 5: Setting up his or her space.

You purchased all the necessary supplies. All customers that purchase a puppy from us at iHeartTeacups of Santa Monica are told to set up the puppy playpen like this: one side is where the wee wee pad is and the other side is her blanket, bed, toys and water bowl.  Puppies naturally will not go potty where they eat and sleep. Make sure the playpen is close to any outlets with wires or anything that could pose harm to the puppy.

Once that is all done, you are ready to enjoy your new tiny teacup iheartteacups puppy yorkie, maltese, poodle, chihuahua, morkie, yorkipoo, shih tau or maltipoo!
